Ok, I voted for Obama and now, halfway through his first term, I’m beginning to see what kind of person I voted for. I won’t call it buyer’s remorse just yet, but he’s moving me closer and closer in that direction. Is it because of the things he’s done? Not exactly. He’s assembled a long list of accomplishments that would qualify as a successful Presidency.
It’s more about two other things he absolutely had control over and refused to address; ignoring what isn’t a priority for him but a priority for everyone out of work, and failing to realize the other side hates him and will NOT meet him halfway – on anything. I only half joked about the Republicans trying to blame him for the East Coast quake. But someone on the right is working on that as you read this. Did anyone blame Bush for Katrina forming? Yeah, yeah I know Bush got hammered for his administration’s poor response to Katrina, and I was in there slinging my little tool right along with everybody else. But really now, if this very bright man cannot see what we the people see very clearly, why should we re-elect him?
This man has been vilified in every way imaginable from disrespect of the office he holds, his heritage, his qualifications – even his college and University affiliations and anything else anyone in the Tea /GOP Party can throw out there – the more ridiculous the better. And that was before he’d been in office barely six months. I have Republican friends who occasionally slip up and include me in the mass emails they forward –as jokes, they say. I even got the forwarded email that asked everyone to sign the petition demanding that everyone “rise up and stop Obama from taking away our rights”. Huh? So far Obama’s skin, in addition to being Black, seems to be fairly thick.
I keep going back to the Bush years that everyone on the right has been busy ignoring or trying to figure ways to blame on Clinton and Obama. My amnesia has cleared up to the point where I can now clearly remember that was the decade the Republicans controlled everything. The wreckage we all are wading through was now clearly the ‘Golden Age for Business’. Am I the only one who wishes that age doesn’t come back again? But, is that the only reason to vote for Obama? If POTUS 44 continues to ignore what everyone else can plainly see, more and more of us in the middle and left will be saying – “I don’t think so.”
My dad always told me if you’re going to complain about a problem, you better also be trying to figure out an answer – or you’re just part of the mob of fools who just like to complain. So, I say; Mr. Obama, you’d better be packin’; a jobs bill, a request to extend the payroll tax break for the middle class, sunset of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, another – that’s right, another stimulus package that helps small businesses hire people and get Pelosi and Reid to put it out there for the Republicans to chew on. And finally, find out where Michelle Bachmann bought her titanium spine and purchase one in your size. Once you do, Perry and the seven (or is it six now?) dwarfs won’t touch you. Why? Because we’ll all be behind you.
